Museo "Gallerie d'Italia" - Milan (MI), Piazza della Scala n. 6
Renovation works on the building for the realization of the "Gallerie d'Italia" Museum
Four historic palaces in Milan, built and modified in the late Eighteenth century and early Twentieth century, between via Manzoni and piazza della Scala: the project transforms the historic location of the Italian Banca Commerciale into museums. The art collections of Cariplo Foundation and of the bank group Intesa Sanpaolo permit to set up permanent exhibitions dedicated to the artistic ferment of the Italian Nineteenth and Twentieth century, in a complex and analyzed itinerary. Ediltecno realized the architectural transformation (project Arch. Michele De Lucchi) in connected phases: the analytical investigation on the buildings’ character, with large rooms that are transformed into exhibition spaces and become also joints or breaks in the itinerary and the restoration of the fine spaces. A particular sensitivity was reserved to the technological systems for the safety of the art works, lighting control, airconditioning and air quality in the museum spaces. A complex intervention, a transformation that has to deal with delicacy and operative intelligence and to form a coherent itinerary, set up the museum sections, placing spaces for teaching and considering refreshment spaces whose opening to the public can be independent from the entrance to the museum. The architecture is divided in different representative spaces and intimate rooms: the project goes together with the decorations and study chromatic solutions for the rooms and specific system for the equipment of the artworks. The ancient vault of the bank becomes an expositive storage of the artworks, set in sliding panels: a vault for a special preciosity.
